I have two children, now adults. The Buchanan house is filled with books, and reading out loud has been a big part of our family’s life. “Day of the Triffids”, “Survive the Savage Sea”, “The Hobbit” have been family favourites; big, adventurous stories. This book is an attempt to produce a book that we would love to sit around and hear read out loud.
Although I have had some journalistic work published this is my first attempt at a novel. Previous published work include articles for an IT newspaper, and (one!) feature article in the Victorian Law Journal. You could argue that my Master’s thesis contained a substantial amount of fiction……
On a day-to-day basis my writing is used in a commercial environment, explaining in plain English technically difficult concepts to non-technical business professionals.
I think I have a well developed sense of narrative, having completed the Swinburne Animation /Interactive Multimedia Graduate Diploma, which included script-writing and required completed animation productions. I have since completed a multimedia Master’s degree at RMIT University. It was pretty technical, about managing multimedia projects when the technology fails.
I spent the last 7 years working for a law firm, and spent most of my time developing custom technology solutions for big legal matters. If you live in Australia you would have heard about these cases, but of course I wouldn’t be so indiscreet as to talk about them.
An extended travelling trip overseas killed that job, and nowadays I contract and consult in IT, specifically on web sites and web applications
